HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT: A Benefit for Iraqi and Palestinian Refugees

WarShooter contributor Kloie Picot has put together a worthwhile benefit for Iraqi and Palestinian refugees, one that she hopes will raise awareness of their plight. All proceeds will go to CROSSING LINES, a non-profit Ms. Picot is establishing to provide language, job training and other skills to refugees.

The event, which opens March 15 at the River Bar and Restaurant in Chung Li will feature an exhibition and silent auction of photographs donated by several well-known photographers, including those shown below. “Through this project, I hope to help people who have been displaced by conflict, to get access to materials and skills so as to become self-sustaining”, says Picot. “But perhaps more importantly, it can help them find a voice and express themselves, even find dignity and a reason to live again.” WarShooter applauds Ms. Picot's attempt to make a difference in the world and wishes the best to her and the rest of the photographers contributing to "Hidden In Plain Sight."

KENYA- post election violence

KENYA, FEB.2008  After a questionable election, Kenya plunged into violence. With over 1,500 dead, and 500,000 displaced, its the worst violence Kenya has seen in decades.  This violence seems more like ethnic cleansing than political.  In the slums of Kibera, angery mobs of "protesters"  rally through the streets searching for kikuyu tribe members, and taunting police.  In Kibera Line Saba,  to control the mobs police turn to tear gas and live rounds.  In smaller cities, like Nakuru,  what kikuyu are left alive are trapped at make shift IDP camps.
