Death Sentences Handed Down in Afghanistan

Two more men have been convicted in the 2001 killings of four journalists who were covering the overthrow of the Taliban regime. The journalists were  Italian Maria Grazia Cutuli, Australian cameraman Harry Burton, Afghan photographer Azizullah Haidari and Spaniard Julio Fuentes. Here is the full story. Although the killers were believed to have been Taliban supporters or soldiers, Pakistan's Daily Times report lists them as members of a criminal gang.  Five others in the "criminal gang" have been convicted of crimes related to the killing and sentenced to between 18 and 20 years for other highway robberies.
